Artist Statement

Originally from Ghana, I create textile-based works (portraits and 3D works) that explore how cultures are woven together through the movements of people. My work draws on the storytelling traditions of African fabrics and the quilting traditions of America, reflecting the merging of histories and narratives across continents.

Through threads, yarns, and other materials, I explore how migration intertwines cultures, histories, and identities. By interlacing these diverse elements, I symbolize diasporic identities, where strands of origin and strands of encounter form something new.

I am drawn to the parallels between weaving cloth and the migrant experience — the tensions, crossings, and transformations that create new forms. Combining digital painting and textile design with embroidery and quilting, I allow tradition and innovation to coexist, mirroring the hybridity at the heart of my work.
