Most of us have only one source of income – the paycheck from our jobs. Although this gives us some financial security, it is not enough. For example, what will happen if you lose that job today? Or what if you develop health issues which make it difficult for you to continue working? So, having only one income stream possess risks for our financial stability. And if you happen to be an artist, oh boy, that regular paycheck is not even guaranteed! So, what do we do?

Conventional wisdom says we should have multiple income streams. But the traditional ways of acquiring such extra income streams are out of reach for many people. Specifically, things such as acquiring real estate, rental property income, dividend income – all require initial investments which folks do not have. So then we return to square one, right.
Not exactly so. Artists, unlike other professionals, are actually well positioned to create multiple income streams from their artwork. Just think about it. How many professionals can profess to have the ability to teach what they do, sell their original creations, receive royalties from licensing their creations – very few. But as an artist, you can.
Artists Have Many Options for Multiple Income Streams
The options for multiple income streams for artists are many. Contrary to what many artists believe about themselves as well as what the general public believes, artists, are not doomed to a life of starvation. Of course, finding which of the many income streams works for any particular artist requires work. Also, not all of them will yield good returns.
But it’s still good to know that we have options. And with a good set of income streams for artists, anyone should eventually be able to live off a decent income. However, there is one myth that has prevented us artists from taking advantage of our rather envious financial position as possible multiple income stream earners. And that is the belief that only successful artists earn multiple income streams. Well, that’s absolutely not true. It’s rather the other way around. Multiple income streams are the secret to a successful creative life.
Oh, What Freedom !!!
I must admit that until quite recently, I too believed that myth. I too believed selling my original artwork was the only way I could make money from my art. But not anymore. My eyes have been opened to the fact that there are options. And even if you decide not to do anything with the many options available to you, it’s still liberating to know that you’re not restricted to just finding gallery representation to sell your work.
Phew!! What a relief!! What a relief to know that being an artist does not only provide food for the soul but can also put food on the table.
Cheers to artistic freedom.
