I’ve got exciting news to share with you!!! My artwork Cappadocia Caves #3 is showing at Slater Memorial Museum from August 20th to September 23, 2016. (See details below).

Cappadocia #3 is one of my newer work that I created in recent weeks. First of all, I acknowledge that, while I’ve diligently updated my mailing list subscribers of each new work, unfortunately, my online gallery hasn’t received such great attention. So if you’re not on my mailing list, you may not even know which piece I’m talking about. For that reason, I’m posting the work in question right here for you all to see.

Competitive Show
This upcoming exhibition is an annual show by Connecticut Women Artists of which I’m a member. 378 total entries were received from 179 artists spanning more than 16 states across the country. In addition, just a little less than a third of the submitted entries were selected. So I’m very excited that one of my pieces was selected. “Courtyard in Cappadocia #3” will be showing at Slater Memorial Museum later in the month with the other 124 selected artworks. You know what I find especially relevant? Well. lets just say that a showing at Slater Memorial Museum is a worthwhile experience!!! Because the very grand floor space, high ceilings and large wall space available for showing artwork makes it special.

This 86th annual exhibition will feature different kinds of artwork. Most noteworthy at the show will be drawing, painting (oils, watercolor, acrylic etc), photography, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media and fiber (textile) art. There’ll be so much to see, you don’t want to miss this exhibit.

The Cappadocia Story
And now here’s the story of Cappadocia #3. This piece of work is based on a photo, my friend Maureen took on a trip to Turkey. I started work on it as a piece in my Stitch the Sketch Series. I explored the design for the very first time in episode 11 . In that piece, I only used stitch to execute the design. But I loved the photo so much that later, I decided to recreate the same design using both stitch and collage. As you can tell from the title, I’ve created it 3 times now. Little did I know that it will be showing at the Slater Memorial Museum, several weeks after I was done creating it.

Benefitting From Long Term Challenges
While we’re on the topic of the third version of “Cappadocia”, I must say that this year long project, – Stitch the Sketch, has turned out to be a “door-opener”. It’s really opened up lots of opportunities for me. Therefore, let me say this, if you have the patience and strength to endure such a prolonged project, I’ll strongly encourage you to start one. The results far outweigh the frustrations. You’ll not only grow in skills, but you will also become more confident in your abilities. In addition, you’ll also find lots of interesting angles to explore in your work. And who knows the masterpieces you’ll probably create 🙂 Take the plunge.!! Challenge yourself to a long term project!!
In conclusion, I’d like to invite you to stop by and enjoy this exhibit. I have below the information for the showing at Slater Memorial Museum.
