Pushing the Surface is a special exhibit in the Montgomery Gallery at Johnson Humrickhouse Museum in Coshocton, Ohio.

This is how the museum describes it:
“Pushing the Surface” is a dance of color, beauty, ingenuity, and story that showcases pieces made by artists with national and international recognition. The techniques are as varied as the subject matter, which is as varied as the effects. Ultimately, the artists create a truly new statement that speaks to mind and spirit like all great art is meant to do.

My piece, “All Lit Up” is featured in this special exhibition. I’m glad to be in the company of some wonderful artists pushing the medium of textiles. There’s wall art, video, sculptures and different forms of textile-based art. So much to see and enjoy.
Pushing the Surface exhibit will be on view until September 4, 2023. For more details check out the calendar details.
My piece in the show – “All Lit Up”- is part of my Joy of Living” series. This is a series I started working on during the pandemic when I contemplated death a lot. As a result, I set out to capture the joy of living everyday life – the antithesis of death.

“All Lit Up” is one of the pieces in which I started pushing geometric abstraction as part of my figurative work. Therefore, it’s a perfect fit in this show that’s all about pushing the surface of textiles as materials as much as a subject in of itself.
If you’re in or around Coshocton, Ohio before the show ends on September 20, please make a trip up to the JHM Museum to see my work in this show. And there’ll certainly be a lot to see beyond my work. Tag me on Instagram when you go.
Till later.
Warmly,
